Kishori Shakti Yojana (KSY) is a government scheme launched in 2000 to empower adolescent girls through education, training and skill development programs. The scheme is intended to improve the status and well-being of adolescent girls and to promote gender equality.
The main features of the scheme include:
- Eligibility: The scheme is open to adolescent girls aged 11 to 18 years.
- Education and Skill Development: The scheme provides non-formal education and skill development programs to improve the educational, economic, and social status of adolescent girls.
- Health and Nutrition: The scheme also provides health and nutrition education, as well as access to health services, to improve the overall health and well-being of adolescent girls.
- Community Mobilization: The scheme uses community mobilization and participation to create awareness and change social attitudes towards adolescent girls.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: The scheme is monitored and evaluated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the state governments.
The scheme was implemented through the Anganwadi centers, and the adolescent girls were provided with non-formal education, life skills education, health education, and nutrition education along with reproductive and child health services, and opportunities for self-expression, self-development and self-reliance. The scheme was discontinued in 2010 and its functionality has been integrated with ICDS and other related schemes.
